Wildhaven Sonoma is strategically located in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley, known for its sprawling vineyards, rolling hills, and breathtaking vistas.
Situated just 60 miles north of San Francisco, this glamping destination offers a convenient escape from the bustling city life without having to travel far.
Within a short drive, visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature while still being close to urban amenities.
Wildhaven Sonoma is only a 10 minute drive from Downtown Healdsburg, where you can find coffee shops, restaurants, shopping, bars and more.
Best Time to Glamp at Wildhaven Sonoma
The beauty of Wildhaven Sonoma is that it can be enjoyed year-round, with each season offering its own unique charm.
However, the best time to visit largely depends on personal preferences and desired activities. Spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) are particularly popular due to milder weather conditions and vibrant foliage and wildflowers.
Summer (June to August) brings warm days and pleasant evenings, perfect for outdoor adventures and river activities like kayaking, SUPing, tubing and of course dipping in the Russian River.
Winter (December to February) offers a peaceful ambiance, with the possibility of cozying up by the fire while embracing the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.

Within walking distance from your tent you will find clean restrooms, hot showers and a bbq area equipped with BBQing tools, picnic tables, and a dish-cleaning station.
Glamping at Wildhaven Sonoma also gives you quick access to some river fun where you can take a dip in their private stretch of the Russian River.
Just in case you forget something there is also a small market on site with some local goodies like wine, salami, cheese, ice cream, water, ice, firewood and other small items.
Wildhaven Sonoma staff is also extremely helpful and willing to answer any and all questions while providing recommendations to trails, restaurants and wineries if needed.
What to Bring to Wildhaven:
While Wildhaven Sonoma provides a well-appointed glamping experience, it’s essential to pack a few items to enhance your stay. Consider bringing:
- Weather-Appropriate Clothing: Layered clothing for varying temperatures and comfortable shoes for outdoor exploration. Water shoes are always a good idea if you plan to enjoy the river.
- Toiletries: Personal hygiene items, including toothbrushes, toothpaste and skincare. They provide Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash.
- Outdoor Essentials: Sunscreen, insect repellent, hats, and sunglasses for protection during outdoor activities.
- Entertainment: Books, board games, or other forms of entertainment for leisurely evenings.
- Groceries, Firewood and your favorite S’mores Kit and of course some wine!
- Kitchen Essentials that you will need for cooking meals. They do have a BBQ area with BBQing utensils but if you want to use the fire pit you will need to bring cooking supplies (silverware/pots/pans, trash bags, and paper towels). Trash cans are dispersed throughout the camp.
- River Essentials: Sandals, camp chair, beach towel, river float tube, cooler for drinks.

Wildhaven Sonoma Glamping: 2 Day Itinerary
We had the pleasure of staying 2 nights at Wildhaven Sonoma and put together the perfect 2 day itinerary.
We decided we didn’t want to cook this time around but they do have a communal outdoor kitchen and a personal fire pit with an adjustable grill for all your cooking needs.
If you don’t want to cook we have some recommendations.
DAY 1
Walk Around Healdsburg Plaza, if you would like to grab a cocktail our favorite place is Duke’s Spirited Cocktails. Open everyday Monday-Friday 4-11pm , Saturday 12pm -2am & Sundays 12pm-12am
Hungry head to Oakville Grocery, they have the best sandwiches or try KINSmoke which serves delicious BBQ meals.
If you need groceries head over to Big John’s Market or Safeway.
Make sure to grab some of the best Salumi for a charcuterie board at Journeyman Meat Co. We got the rest of the ingredients from Big John’s Market.
Check In, explore the campground, relax and enjoy your delicious charcuterie board with some wine of course.
DAY 2
Wake up early and get some yummy baked goods. Head to Quail and Condor Bakery, they are very popular so just in case they are sold out don’t worry head over to Downtown Bakery, try their Sticky Buns they’re the best.
We highly recommend a Wine and Bike Tour. If you don’t want to bring your own bike you can rent one at Getaway Adventures or Spoke Folk Cycles. Or better yet join a Bike & Wine Guided Tour.
If you decide to do your own wine tour we recommend the following wineries which are the perfect cycling distance form Wildhaven Sonoma.
- Stuhlmuller Vineyards
- Medlock Ames Historic Healdsburg Tasting Room
- Stonestreet Winery
Head back to Wildhaven Sonoma for some rest and relaxation, they also have a couple lawn games you can enjoy.
For dinner in town, we recommend one of our favorite restaurants.

Before driving back to Wildhaven Sonoma enjoy a Sunset Hike at Healdsburg Ridge Open Space Preserve.
This is the trail we did, it’s an easy 2.5 mile loop hike. Nancy’s Ridge and All The Oaks Loop.
Head back to Wildhaven Sonoma, get that fire pit going, grab your S’mores supplies a bit of wine and enjoy the rest of your night by the campfire.
Helpful Tips
- Water comes from a well, is treated, and is safe to drink from the communal kitchen.
- Make sure to store all your food properly. Store your food in a cooler or inside your vehicle, never leave food inside your tent.
- Check In Time is from 3pm-7pm
- Quiet Time is from 10pm-8am
- Wildhaven Sonoma is Dog Friendly
- If you are a light sleeper bring your favorite ear plugs! Wildhaven Sonoma is located near a main road so it can be a little noisy at night for some.
