January Travel Destinations
So where to travel to in January? Here are my top 5 recommendations:
1. Argentina
Okay I don’t know how many times I’ve mentioned Argentina in the past year since we visited, probably enough times to start annoying people. It’s just to good not to share and that’s what makes it my number one travel destination.
Argentina is seriously the most amazing country we’ve visited. It has everything you ever want while exploring a new country. Culture, the most surreal landscapes, food, art, romantic vibes and as an American it’s extremely and I mean extremely affordable.
I love all the countries on this list but Argentina will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Between the gorgeous hikes in Patagonia, visiting the gorgeous Igauzu Falls, sipping wine in Mendoza and enjoying the most amazing steak dinners, I couldn’t think of a better place to start the new year.
If you’re still asking, Where should I travel to in January? Argentina, I’ve decided for you, just go trust me you wont have any regrets.
Make sure to head on over to the guide I wrote for Argentina. It will cover everything you need to know to plan your trip. See, I made it super easy for you!
2. Chile
Okay now if you have a good amount of vacation days I would 100% recommend combining Argentina and Chile together if you can. Combing these two destinations will deliver a dream vacation!
I recommend spending most of your time in Patagonia, The Atacama Desert and Easter Island. Sadly when we went the Island was still closed from the aftermath of COVID. So if you go let me know how it was.
We spent a week in Patagonia and could have easily spent a month. It’s offers some of the most gorgeous scenery you’ll ever see. Jagged peaked mountains, glacier blue lakes, glaciers, wildlife, it’s seriously stunning. If you can I whole heartedly recommend hiking the O circuit.
Of course I got you covered and have a post about hiking the O circuit.
If you head up to Actacama you will witness some of the darkest nights with the most beautifully bright stars. Make your way over to Valle de la Luna where you will feel like you’re walking through mars.
Don’t forget to try some of the very famous Chilean wine!
3. New Zealand
For the longest time New Zealand held the number one travel title. Although Argentina has taken the number one spot, New Zealand still holds very high on my list. I would say top 5 for sure. It’s one of the most beautiful countries we’ve visited. You see a theme here right? I love all things nature and New Zealand is one of the most gorgeous countries to enjoy just that.
I recommend visiting both the North and South Islands, starting with the North and then proceeding to the South. Do yourself a favor and rent a camepervan and hit the open road.
We experienced amazing excursions while in New Zealand like caving, white water rafting, mountain biking, out of this world hiking, visited the cutest little movie scene of Hobbiton , cruised the the glorious Milford Sound and dipped in freezing cold glacier water just to name a few.
Plus Kiwi’s are some of the nicest people we have met. A holiday in New Zealand will be one you’ll remember for life just remember to pack sunscreen as the New Zealand sun is no joke.
4. Finland
Okay if you are not trying escape the cold and want to see some of the most gorgeous snowfall landscapes than make your way over to Finland. Plus if you’re lucky enough you might get the chance to see the Northern Lights.
Excursions in Finland are a must. Go mushing, my absolute favorite excursions of our trip, snowmobiling, ice fishing, stay in an igloo or be a little crazy and overnight in an Ice Hotel where your bed is made of ice! Crazy right? In the morning you get a cute little certificate stating that you survived a night between 23-28 degrees Fahrenheit.
Don’t forget to have as much Golgi aka mulled wine, as possible. Oh how I miss Golgi.
IGLOO STAYS:
- Wilderness Hotel Muotka & Igloos
- Aurora Queen Resort Igloos
- Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort – Igloos and Chalets
ICE HOTEL:
5. Sri Lanka
Not your typical destination but hear me out, Sri Lanka is so under rated! Besides sunset at Pidurangula Rock and taking the train to Nuwara Eliya, we pretty much were like the only tourist at so many of the attractions.
20Enjoy a safari and experience wildlife including the majestic asian elephant, visit temples, lush tea plantations, waterfalls, lounge on empty beaches and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets at Pidurangula Rock.
When you head to the beach make sure to enjoy a seafood dinner, me and my friends literally still talk about how amazing the seafood was.
Our time in Sri Lanka was very special and you will get to experience a place that so many don’t even know of or give the opportunity to know.
Whatever destinations you chose the adventure will be worth it. This post covered Travel Destinations: Where to Travel In January.
