February Travel Destinations
So where to travel in February? Here are my top 5 recommendations. Starting with,
Mexico
Our first recommendation is Mexico! This extraordinary and underrated North American country offers travelers so much diversity. Mexico has so much more to offer than the very touristy Tulum, Cancun or even Playa del Carmen. Head over to Guanajuato, Oaxaca City, Bacalar, Mazunte, Puerto Escondido, Merida or Mexico City to name a few instead.
Mexico offers archeological wonders, beaches, unmatched snorkeling, national parks, dynamic cities, mouth watering cuisine, mezcal, tequila and very importantly, affordability.
We spent one month in Mexico and we completely fell in love with this country. First off, the food alone is recommendation enough to visit Mexico. 10 months exploring and trying different cuisines around the world and the food in Mexico quickly stood out. Mexican food is unmatched to any country we visited on our 10 month trip.
You’ll never go hungry in Mexico, on every corner you”ll be sure to find a snack stand, restaurant or food truck waiting for you.
With an abundance of activities in Mexico you could spend your mornings exploring Mayan civilizations, your afternoons on sandy stretches of paradise and evenings trying out different taco stands. Or how about an early morning hot air ballon ride over the Unesco Heritage site of Teotihuacan and afternoon Mezcal tasting and an evening enjoying a Lucha Libre show with the locals, an absolute must. The list is end less.
Mexico is an ideal destination for history buffs, foodies, culture seekers and nature lovers. It truly has it all.
Next on the list,
Belize
Sitting on the Caribbean coastline, Belize offers wildlife-filled jungles, coral reefs, mysterious underground cave systems and a feeling of complete rawness.
True Story, the beach towns of Belize are so small that you will run into locals over and over again. Like when we met a group of Belizean men and stayed out way to late drinking with them only to find out the next morning that they were our flight crew including the pilot. It was an adventure.
Many restaurants are extensions of locals homes with grandma cooking in the kitchen, like I said it’s raw and amazing.
You can expect uncrowded beaches, Garifuna culture, jungle adventures, mayan ruins, snorkeling and cave exploring.
Don’t miss Xunantunich, Belize’s most easily accessible and impressive Maya archaeological site. Searching for Jaguars in Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, experience the underworld of Actun Tunichil Muknal one of the most memorial experiences we had in Belize and snorkel with nurse sharks, turtles, manatees and eagle rays at Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
Although Belize is a small country, it’s packed full of exciting adventures!
onto the next destination,
Costa Rica
Costa Rica is known as one of best vacation destinations in the world.
This Central American gem has over 500,000 species of wildlife and over 100 national parks, reserves, refuges and protected lands. Costa Rica is dedicated to protecting and preserving their eco-diversity. They are on their way to becoming the first carbon neutral nation in the world!
Costa Rica is pretty much a nature playground offering so many outdoor activities. Experience white water rafting, surfing, zip-lining through a cloud forest, rappel down waterfalls, ATV you way through rivers and jungles, horseback riding, natural hot springs and more. I’m telling you there’s no shortage of outdoor activities for thrill-seekers.
If you’re a lover of coffee, well you’re in for a sweet surprise as Costa Rica is known to produce some of the best coffee in the world, it’s a java lovers paradise.
Spending time in Costa Rica will have you fully embracing the “Pure Vida” state of mind of the Costa Rican people in no time.
now lets move on to,
Thailand
The land of smiles. Thailand holds a special place in my heart. Thai people definitely hold the award for the most friendliest people in the world. No request is to big, they go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed and although they receive over 16 million tourist a year their culture of friendliness remains very much intact.
Thailand is home to world class hospitality, pristine beaches, the most delicious food, temples and wildlife. Not to mention Thailand is very cost effective.
Enjoy diving, snorkeling or lounging on gorgeous beaches with over 1500 miles of coastline. Tasting delicious Thai dishes at local markets or learning the craft yourself at one of many cooking classes offered by locals. Venture and explore Buddhist temples, tuk tuk your way through the amazing city of Bangkok and don’t forget to spend some time in nature caring for elephants.
Three things you absolutely can’t leave Thailand without trying is mango sticky rice, oh man it will change your life, Thai Tea and the most important experience, a Thai massage. Can you believe an hour massage is roughly $10!! Insane!!
Thailand is filled with great food, great people and great adventures, it has something for everyone!
If you are looking for a guide in Bangkok I highly recommend Mandy. We had a 3 day private tour with her and could not have been happier with her services. She was so accommodating, professional and knowledgeable.
Lastly on our list of February travel destinations is,
Israel
I know what you’re thinking……Isreal?? Really? and the answer is ABSOULETLY. When you think of the Mediterranean what comes to mind is probably Greece, Italy or Croatia but rarely does anyone say Israel and I have to say that’s such a shame.
With fascinating history dating back over 5000 years, diverse landscapes and amazing food you’ll wonder why you didn’t visit sooner.
Walk along the streets of Jerusalem, the holiest city in the world, spend your day exploring one of our favorite metropolitan cities in the world Tel Aviv, visit the Dead Sea the lowest point on earth, take the snake path to Masada to witness one of the most surreal sunrise moments, sip wine in Golan Heights and eat hummus an Israeli staple, with the locals for lunch. These are just a few key memories that I have of Israel but there is so much more to see and do.
Love to travel to off the beaten path? Visit Israel, you will be one of the few tourist exploring and locals will greet you with open arms.
Hope that helps you pick your February travel destination, happy planning!
